AE70? TE71?

Whatever the ACTUAL model name is called, this is one Corolla that a friend of mine just bought from Sabah.

This friend of mine had caught the drift bug for 2 years (thanks to me, of course, haha!), and he’s been sourcing for a RWD ride for quite a while, and now, he finally got one, but unfortunately, many think that he had paid more than what the car has to offer.  (Nop, I ain’t going to reveal the actual price that he paid for the car)

What exhaust is this?

First thing I’ve noticed on the car was the sticker on the front windshield which stated “D1KK”, looks like it’s been through one hell of an abuse from the previous owner, and it’s not hard to notice all the ‘scars’ and rusts throughout the entire body.

The car however does equipped with a 4AGE 16v, and as the previous owner claimed, it has a 2 way LSD in which we have yet to verified.  By the way, these pictures were taken at my usual workshop, the car is going to undergo some minor repairs and upgrades I think.

The things that I dislike the most on this car has got to be the steering, not that I have a better one in my Charmant, but the fact that the owner decided to replace a concave sparco wheel with this half-assed riced out wheel, is pathetic.  Maybe I can ask if he wanted to give that Sparco to me, for free… LOL!

Another downside of this car is that it still uses STOCK suspensions, with springs cut for the lowered stance, however, it does roll with some decent rims though.

Old school Rim FTW!

Too bad those rims aren’t in good shape, which I assumed is caused by previous drift abuses, hehe.  I do wonder how these would look on the Charmant though? 😛

Anyways, I can’t wait to see this car getting sideways, my only hope is that my friend won’t just be another poser who works on this car like forever just to get it in better shape (to be honest, this car REALLY does need some help on the body) and never drives it that much.  We’ll see…

  1. Saw this car for sale on mudah. Personal thoughts bout the price for people who lives in Semenanjung; it is freaking reasonable!

Actually you can call this car AE70/KE70/TE71 or whatever it is, and yes KE70! Because KE70 has this type of body too. I wonder whats going through the head of Toyota designer during the 80’s. Hahaha.

I hope you have a tsuiso partner now 😀

  2. that’s one sweet looking machine. i’d go for it over an AE86 anytime.

rather than guessing, just look for the chassis code under the bonnet, assuming this drift beast still has it.. or on the legal papers.

if you need to ask anything on an internet forum regarding this car, you’ll need the chassis code for sure. KE70 would get different response to AE70 or TE71. differential, gearbox, engine might differ between each chassis code. of course it doesn’t matter now that the engine isn’t stock.

i’d pay US$3,500 or even more for exact same car. so if that’s about how much your friend paid for it, then we’re on the same boat and i won’t care about people saying i paid too much.

  3. Zam: There’s a lot more to the story, which I don’t think its appropriate to share them online, but yea, just as you mentioned, I really do hope I have a drift partner soon! hehe~

Edgar: Are there plenty of AE70/TE71 in Indonesia? AFAIK, there’s loads of them here in Sarawak, haha!

  5. bro how is the sitting position w the steering position, it seems quite awkward in mine. Need to transplant the whole 86 dashboard in so tat i could adjs. the height. Anyway same here I paid quite a hefty sum for tis for very little performance parts in it.

  6. Hey!! Cut stock springs ain’t that bad… (i think I’m on cut stock springs too..?). Tell your friend, GO OUT AND START DRIFTING MAN!!! It’s been abused. better abuse it more. From there you’ll know what needs upgrading. What really needs to be fixed. (then again, I’m the sort who have not upgraded anything in my car, and only fix the important, need-this-running-properly-part-so-car-can-run parts in the car.

Seriously, drag him out and drift it soon, before he parks it too long in the garage,

  7. aa63: The seating position for that black AE70 is bad, its slightly off-aligned towards the door, which IMHO will take some time to get used to. One of the seat brackets also came loose, so the seat basically shakes and hops!

tofu: Yea that’s what I thought, I need to literally DRAG him out to drift the bugger! hehe~
