Kuching’s Go Kart Track

Posted in Sarawak Drift Tracks on September 11, 2009 by Stanley Carter

I got some friends that have been asking me to visit Kuching lately, speaking of Kuching, there’s this go kart track right beside the Stadium, the track iss also pretty much action packed during the weekend afternoons, and here’s a video showing how’s the track layout is:

Once you’ve seen this video, you’d know that the track is basically converted from an existing car park.

The track however, is a lot bigger as compared to the one from Sarikei which I’ve featured before, but considering the fact that there’s dividers, gutters and the trees alongside the track, they’re definitely things to watch out for if I were to push my old car to the limits there.

Another downside for me is that there aren’t any big corners, I guess that’s how it is when it was converted from a Car Park, all you get are mostly 90 degree tight turns, hmmm….

But hey, it is STILL driftable from the looks of it, and I am still very, very KEEN on drifting my Charmant there…. the main concern here would be the transportation, I can either drive all the way there or have my Charmant transported down by a trailer.

But meh…. I don’t think any of this will happen anytime soon, as far as I feel right now, it just ain’t that much of a fun when you have to do this all by yourself (a convoy with a group of friends down to Kuching would be a whole lot more fun!), sucks that nobody in Sibu is seriously into Drifting, sigh~~

Sarikei’s potential Drift Track?

Posted in Sarawak Drift Tracks on August 11, 2009 by Stanley Carter

Remember back then I posted a youtube video of the Sarikei’s deserted go kart track, which has long being converted into a jogging park + football field?  Well, last Sunday, I had a mini family trip down to Sarikei and I’ve finally get the chance to visit this place personally, though not in my Charmant of course (fetching your family members on your drift ride on a long journey is definitely NOT a good idea!)

Anyways, let’s get it started with this Panorama picture I took with my handphone:

And here are some individual pictures I took at several portions of the track:

The place is open to public, and I actually drove my little Perodua around the entire track.  While I was driving slowly, there were also 2 young girls learning to ride their Yamaha in it as well.

I thought the track was big, but it isn’t, it is actually quite small.  The track width can only withstand an aproximate size of 1 and a half cars, and the corners are mostly 1st gear corners, you heard me right, 1st gear only!  There are 2 straights which would probably let you push up to 2nd gear for some early entries, but those corners are rather tight as well.

There are 1-2 potholes on the track, if I were to drift my Charmant here, I might have to keep an eye out for those little traps, other than that, there’s no dividers, there’s no longkangs, all pavement + grass, to me that’s good receipe for Drifting, no?

My wife’s younger bro who is currently working in Sarikei happens to know the owner of the track, and he will help me to talk to the owner about the possibility of letting me, driving (sideways) my Charmant, in his track… let’s hope for good news. ^^
