First thing that came to my mind when I woke up in the early morning was “IT’S ABOUT BLOODY TIME WE HAVE SOME PROPER DRIFTING IN SIBU!!” Yeeee Hah~!!
I’ve arrived at the agreed venue at 9am and immediately I saw the trailer with all 4 cars that have been in action since yesterday in Bintulu, while I was there the workers have already started unloading the vehicles, while some of my local friends have already arrived earlier to check out the action later on. Someone even offered to sponsor for a professional video recording crew for the occasion, crazy but awesome, haha!
Long story short, I’ll let the following video do the talking (it’s almost an hour long though):
The session ended around 11:30am and the Kuching guys had to pack up and depart on their way home to Kuching. I had a BLAST and the time of my life during that morning, there were a few things that made me go NUTS:
1. Finally twin car donut
2. Tsuiso, HELL YEAH!!!
3. The feeling of companionship, finally some other guys that REALLY drifts!
4. Drifting the most expensive car I’ve ever driven: Nissan 350z auto
These are some of the first for me and boy was I super satisfied and HAPPY. I’m glad I’ve made the trip to Bintulu and met up with these new friends from Kuching, or else all of these wouldn’t have happened, and during this morning, we’ve made some more new friends as well whom I think can really help to push the scene for greater exposure and hopefully attract more to join.
I can say that Sarawak drifting is definitely moving at the right direction, albeit a slow one, but at least it’s a start.
Big thanks to all those that’ve assisted and involved to make this happen, and hopefully something like this will happen again very soon, go go Sarawak drift! ^_^
Petronas was doing this XTrack roadshow throughout Malaysia for the past months and now they’ve stumbled upon Bintulu, the only round in Sarawak, on 15 Dec 2012.
I first heard about the news in November and after I knew who’re the drivers are, I immediately started planning for my trip and all that, cause I’m pumped and excited to meet up with some old friends!
I borrowed my Dad’s Kia Forte for the 2.5 hours drive from Sibu to Bintulu, and boy was the journey EXHAUSTING, the road condition is simply AWFUL, bumps everywhere, pot holes that are simply HAZARDOUS if you happen to drive through at high speeds. Despite the terrible morning drive, I did managed to arrive in Bintulu on time and safely, so thanks to Forte and my driving skills, LOL!
Check out the pics:
And here’s a short video that I’ve recorded:
It definitely feels great to meet up with some old friends, especially Zamil whom we have been playing LFS since 5-6 years back, and this was our very first time meeting up with each other, how time flies and now he’s already half way to his professional drifter status.
Although this is not the first time professional drifters come and perform demos in Sarawak, but it is definitely a first for Bintulu, if I can still recall, the first time was Ah Fai dropping by Miri for some drift lessons.
Anyhow, what’s more exciting is that I managed to meet up with some new FRIENDS during the event!! They’re all from Kuching, 5-6 of them and all are drift enthusiasts just like I am. (Apparently Petronas decided to not spend that much money on shipping Yoong and his gang’s drift cars all over from Semenanjung and have sourced 4 drift-ready vehicles from Kuching, so the owners also followed the trip up to Bintulu with their cars) Needless to say, me and the Kuching fellas were having some AWESOME conversations and to add up with the excitement, they’ve told me they’re planning to have a little drift session in Sibu while they’re on their way back to Kuching, needless to say, I was STOKED!!
After we exchanged contact numbers with each other and me bidding farewell to Yoong and the rest of the gang, I started my trip back to Sibu and immediately made some phone calls for the necessary arrangements for the next BIG day…
To be continued…
