4AGE 16V RED TOP

4AGE 16V RED TOP

So, my 3rd 4AGE finally arrived to the workshop in one piece, first thing first, is to cut and reweld the throttle body since it’s currently at the ‘wrong’ side of the intake, you can see in the above pics, this 16v 4AGE does not have TVIS anymore, huhuhu~

Right after the throttle body mod was completed, the mech was quick in installing it into my car, here’s a quick view:

Engine installed

There’s a few more littlest stuff that needed to be sorted out before I can drive it home, but the first thing I’ve noticed is that the engine now sits lower as compared to my previous two engines, hmm?

And due to the slightly different sizes of the intake manifold, here’s a picture to show just how CLOSE  it is to my clutch fluid!

Oh hello there Clutch Fluid, mind if we shared some space?

Other than that, I’ve also replaced my old Clutch plate and lining, couple of seals and also in need of a new battery, till then, look forward to my next update.  ^^

Fuckin robbers

My sister’s purse got snatched away few hours ago, and it all happened in my house.

All of us were having our lunch, I left home earlier as I got some other business to attend to, I left the gate open as I knew my sister was about to leave as well, but what I didn’t knew was that she went upstairs to use my computer for a while since her two daughters were still eating at the living room, and yet somehow she decided to just leave the gate opened. Just few minutes after I left, a stranger suddenly walks into our home (our main door was closed but it wasn’t locked) with his slippers on, he looked over my sister’s daughters and grinned (according to my niece, he was making a clown-ish expression), he then left a letter on the nearest table (I assumed he was trying to pretend as a postman?), walked towards the nearest sofa where my sister left her purse at, grabbed and started running to his motorcycle! It was only then my nieces knew the guy was actually a robber/thieve, they rushed upstairs to my sister while crying for help, when my sister got down the stranger had already flee.

My sister didn’t lost much as she only had RM40++ in her purse, there were some cards but she had disabled all of them right after. However, we do feel extremely fortunate that the robber was only aiming for the purse, and not the kids! Just imagine how disastrous it’d be if he or them were to do something to the little ones, and my sister were upstairs!

This is not the first time that had happened in our home, as my sister had had her phone snatched before while she was bathing her youngest son in the bathroom, and yes, she left the door wide open! (the gate was closed but not locked). I’m sure after this second encounter, she’d learn her lesson and always close and lock the gates/doors at all times.

This definitely raised our awareness on the safety and security in our neighborhood, guess all we could do now is just be that extra more careful. Again, we’re lucky no one was hurt. Fuckin robbers!

4AGE 16v 3rd Gen

After having my head disassembled from the block and had some basic check up on the engine’s condition, it seems like my worst fear has been realized once again, although I may opt to have it repaired, but that would cost just as much as getting another engine, so before I’ve decided on anything, Johnny was scouting around many of Miri’s half cut shops and he was particularly impressed with this one that he visited last couple of days:

Engines

More engines

Can you spot how many 4AGEs in this pic?

According to Johnny, the place is filled with all kinds of engines you can think of, however they might cost a bit more than usual.  Plenty of 20v 4AGE scattered around the warehouse, but getting a 20v would be exceeding my current budget, so instead of upgrading to a 20v, I’m still going for 16v, but this time, I’m getting the third and last generation of the 16v 4AGE, here are some differences I’ve quoted from wikipedia if you’re interested:

The third-generation appeared in 1989 and was in production until 1991. This engine has the silver cam covers with the words only written in red, hence the nickname “red top”. Toyota increased the compression ratio from 9.4:1 to 10.3:1. To correct the air-speed problems of the earlier generations, the intake ports in this cylinder head were re-designed to have a smaller cross-section, and hence it has been nicknamed the “smallport” head. This change in the intake ports negated the need for the earlier twin-runner intake manifold and it was replaced with a single-runner manifold. Additional engine modifications to extend life and reliability included under-piston cooling oil squirters, thicker connecting rods and other components. Also of note, the pistons were changed to accept a 20 mm fully floating gudgen pin unlike the 18 mm pressed-in pins of the earlier versions. All non-U.S. market 4A-GEs continued to use a MAP sensor, while all of the U.S.-market 4A-GE engines came with a MAF sensor. This revision increased the power to 140 PS (100 kW; 140 hp) at 7200 rpm with a torque of 149 N·m (110 lb·ft) at 4800 rpm (130 hp and 105 lb-ft for US-market cars).

Here’s a pic of the engine I just bought:

4AGE 16v 'Red Top'

As you can see, no more TVIS, some modifications to the current intake manifold and throttle body is required before it can be fitted to my Charmant’s engine bay, this 3rd gen 4AGE was previously from a FWD Toyota, therefore it won’t be a direct fit to a RWD layout vehicle.

The engine’s already arrived Sibu, but due to some issues with the delivery company, I’ll have to wait till next Monday to finally get my hands on the engine, and start working.

I’m already broke, yet there are still quite a number of parts I need to gather in order to have the engine up and running in my Charmant, I hope this is all worth it.  All that is pushing me now is my passion, to others, act of idiocy? ^_^
