My Star Drift Experience – Part 1: The Arrival

I arrived KLIA last Friday at around 11am (there was an hour delay at Kuching International Airport), I took the KLIA Transit to Bandar Tasik Selatan, which costs me only RM26.50, once I got there, I paid another RM1.00 for a LRT ticket to Sri Petaling.

When I got there, Yoong (a.k.a MrNismo) was already waiting for me at the entrance, he then drove me to his home where he was still packing up for the trip later in the afternoon.

After we arrived, I spotted this very popular pink Datsun drift spec pickup parked in his house, Yoong said the owner was borrowing his place to park the car, just for a short time though.  Anyhow check out some pictures that I took of this pinky pickup:

While Yoong was busy doing his thing, I was there checking out his sweet garage and the monster rides.

If you noticed, the rear rim looks like Gramlights, but after a closer look, it’s actually a TE37 been painted to look like a Gramlight, haha!

Here is a short video showing how his HKS D1 spec S13 is started:

Pure SEX!

I’m not too sure about this, but I do believe Yoong designed his own garage, and it just looks like a comfortable place to be with the cars, I mean, c’mon, his garage even has 2 ceiling fans just to keep him and his rides cool, haha!

And here are a set of TE37 which was previously fitted on his black Caldina, which was recently sold and replaced by this super VIP, the Nissan Elgrand, I’ll cover this car later on.

While I was in the house seeing if there’s anything that I can help, Yoong passed me a helmet and a pair of racing gloves:

Yoong:”Here, try these on, see if they fit”

Me:”Eh? What for?”

Yoong:”Eh~You fly all the way from Sibu to here, I let you drive my R32 on tomorrow’s practice lah~”

Me:”Holy shit, for real!?”

Yoong:”Of course!”

I think you could’ve imagined how excited I was at that moment, haha.

Oh and I really gotta show this, this is Yoong’s little daughter’s baby seat, RECARO!

At around 1pm, Yoong asked me to go along with him on a short trip to his company so that he can drive his Dunlop R32 to Onwards, the R32 was in need of a service before he can start abusing it again at Star Drift.

As you can see, Sean’s car was also there, rushing for some minor repairs before his and Yoong’s R32 will be loaded onto the trailer at 6pm.

At around 2pm, everything was packed in the huge Elgrand, and we’re off to Melaka.  We stopped by Seremban for a quick lunch of KFC, then after an hour and a half, we finally reached A’Famosa, the place which I’ve been eager to visit, and I can’t believe I’m finally here!

The car park is simply HUGE!  And to my surprise, the surface was filled with gravels, and I always thought this car park’s surface was smooth, but no, there were a few bumps here and there, few cracks, and gravels, lots of it.  Yoong told me despite of this minor problem, this place was still one of the best place to drift on, and I have to agree, the place was wide and long with absolutely no obstacles in between (except that 1 tree), you can basically come up with 99x layouts in such a big place!

Anyhow, soon after we got out of the car, I get to meet the main organizer of Star Drift, Mr. Ngan from StarGazer.  Meeting him was an honor, not only so, the fella was very down to earth, though he is very strict against his Indian workers, whom are busying laying out the tires for the track to be.

When the sun starts to set, the track was also done, here’s a short video showcasing the layout, recorded in Yoong’s Elgrand:

On the first night here, we stayed at A’Famosa’s Tower 4 apartment, our room was on 23rd floor, quite a nice view up there too.

Ronald from DCM showed up later in the evening with 3 of his students, Ronald has been helping Mr. Ngan in many of his events throughout the years, and it was a pleasure meeting him, definitely a cool fella to hang out with!

We had dinner at the local market, after that, bought some snacks and beers and chatted a little before we all went to bed.
