New drift partner!

Posted in Sibu Drifting on February 26, 2009 by Stanley Carter

Yes, you heard me alright, when Louis (a.k.a Tofu) left Sibu 2 years ago, I was back being a lonely drifter again.  But not until last Sunday, I finally ‘poisoned’ Johnny in getting his turbocharged AE86 to burn some tires! Hell yeah babeh! LOL!

Last sunday, I had a little drift showoff at Sibu Agape Center, right after that I actually got a sms from Johnny asking if I wanted to have some fun, having just drifted on a big empty car park with my adrenaline still high, of course I replied yes.  We then agreed to meet up at the old airport runway in 30 minutes.

I arrived at the place earlier, so I parked my car and decided to take some pictures:

Noticed the tall stand in which my car is parked right underneath? That’s actually the stand where the R/C drivers stand and maneuver their cars from the higher view.  But for that particular day, its me and Johnny’s pit area, and I did changed my tires there, Sibu’s sun very hot ler… have to take cover mar… HAHA!

And here is a picture I took on the R/C track from the top of the stand:

R/C mini track

It looks good doesn’t it, too bad it ain’t BIG enough for some decent drift action, sure you can do some donuts and figure 8s around it, but it’s still too small IMO.  On the other hand, the track is somewhat damaged, but I swear, I was not the culprit! :-X

Here’s another shot I took from the top of the stand, this is the runway, good for doing some high speed choku dori (winks at Louis, LOL!):

This is also the place where I drifted later on after Johnny’s arrival.

Anyways, long story short, Johnny came and did 1-2 donuts, he was shocked that the few seconds only drift was actually enough to peeled off some of its rear tire treads (well, I was shocked as well!).  Without any spares tires available, he decided to just park and watch me play.  I finished off my left rear tire first, got it replaced and off we go again, this time I’m letting Johnny drive.  Again, he was doing only donuts as he finds my non-power steering is a bit hard to control, I guess it does need some getting used to, my steering sure is stiff!

I had Johnny in my passenger seat and we went further up the runway to try some bigger drifts, with the hot blazing sun above us, the tires gave away in just 3 drifts, here are some shots:

Funny thing was, we were having too much fun drifting that we forgot to bring along my tools and the spare tires, that means we had to walk 2-300m on foot to the R/C track area to get the tools and tires, LOL!

After I got the stuffs on Johnny’s car, Johnny let me drove his AE86 down the straight, I must say, his turbocharged AE86 felt like a beast compared to my 16v NA! T_T

Anyhow, we got back onto my Charmant and just when I was jacking up the car and getting the tires changed, I didn’t noticed I had misplaced the jack, not until I lowered down the car and heard some cracking sound, followed by some paint peeling off the side skirt of my Charmant, I had a look and then OMG!

O fuck!

O fuck!

Now that’s definitely not a small damage!  I know, I know, I’m such a f*cking IDIOT!

Johnny just giggled, and then in an attempt to try to make me feel better, he offered me to drive his AE86 down the straight again, I quickly grinned and accepted the offer, man I’m too easily pleased, LOL!

At the end of the runway, we decided to have a little photoshoot with our cars parked together, actually it was my idea as I wanted to share some “fame” with the almighty AE86!  My Charmant must be really happy too! ROFL!

Alright, here are the pictures that I took with my crappy handphone:

I’m just thinking really, that how our cars would’ve looked much better if they were photographed by somebody else, like Victor for instance? *hint hint*  ^_^

Anyways, you might be wondering what makes me think that Johnny’s my drift partner?  Well although he only did some donuts (less than 5 I think), but its the sms that he sent me that night that got me ROFL:

“Shit I suppose not to play but you poisoning me back.  Had been two years not playing car”

Above is the exact sms message that I received when I was about to go to bed, see? see? My effort pays off, now Johnny is slowly coming to the ‘Dark’ side as well, hahahaha~~!! Go go Sibu drift! ^^

Close call!

Posted in Random on February 26, 2009 by Stanley Carter

Yesterday evening I was at my Mother-in-Law’s house when the rain started getting heavier, I didn’t paid much attention to the extremely heavy rain and continue’d watching some drama in the house.  At around 9pm’ish, my mom called:

“Stan, you’re coming home yet?”

“Will be in 30 minutes I guess”

“Well just to inform you, our lane is flooded, and its coming into the garage already”

“Huh!?”

I walked out to the balcony and finally I realized that water is starting to rise thanks to the non-stop heavy rainpour throughout the past several hours.  I quickly informed my wife and we slowly walked to our vehicle, the water level reached our ankles on the road at the time.

The ride home was pretty difficult, as the rain pour was really heavy, it decreases the visibility a lot, plus the fact that my windscreen wipers haven’t gotten replaced (which it should).  But anyhow, we did reached home safely.  As expected, our lane was flooded, I’ve decided its best to drive my wife into the garage first, then drove back out to park my car on a higher ground as a precaution.

Here’s a picture I took from my house:

Flood in the making?

Flood in the making?

This is the highest water level point I think, if it gets any higher its definitely coming into our house for sure.  I suspect the main culprit of this is the bad drainage system which wasn’t properly maintained and also, there is this big house just accross the street which was doing some construction as well, could that be a culprit too?

Anyways, the water subsided pretty soon, I even came down to double check during 1am midnight just to ensure it ain’t rising, but to my surprise, it subsided quicker than I thought, the whole lane was already water free, which was a great relief.  I’m sure other lower areas in Sibu are once again haunted by this sudden flood, sigh~

From voluntary work to Drift Showoff

Posted in Sibu Drifting on February 24, 2009 by Stanley Carter

Last Sunday morning I went to Sibu Agape Center along with a group of friends from Sibu.org, one of the lady in the group proposed to do some voluntary work for the place, which is to repaint some areas in the building.  As we only have the entire morning to spend, we’ve decided that it is fair to complete all the Parapets within the building.  Our group consists of 30++ people, during the entire morning, everyone were  scrapping the rust off the Parapet and applying new paint on them.  Most of us had no experience in doing this sorta work  so the quality of work done so far wasn’t very good LOL!  In the end we spent more time repairing our f*ckup up paint job, and yes, we did not finished what we had planned, but at least we’re halfway through, but we will be back of course!

Anyhow, after everyone cleaned up the place and packed up ready to leave, some of the guys in the group asked me to do some drift in the big parking space, I agreed and the show was on:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Thanks to Simmy Tan for taking these video clips.  As you can see from the videos above, the entire drifting action didn’t last long, as I was worried if the management of the place would be unhappy, but other than that, I still managed to give 2 friends a ride, and I think they enjoyed it, which is always a good thing, haha!

Yes! Madam!

I have a bad habit, whenever I finished my shower, I don’t go straight to the room to get myself dressed, instead the first thing I do after I came out from the shower is to sit in front of the PC, half naked with only a towel around my waist.  The thing that annoys my wife is the fact that I would spent more than 10 minutes in front of the PC, half naked, till I finally decided its time to get dressed, yea, my wife is really annoyed.  She’s kinda fed’up trying to remind me all the time as well, and this is what she thought of:

Wife's note

Wife's note

Guess what, when I first saw this note, I actually stood up and went to get myself dressed immediately, I’m not sure why, but surprisingly it works, I guess its just her humourous approach to this matter that really caught my attention.  And yeah, I should really get rid of this bad habit of mine, LOL!

p/s: Speaking of which, I’m actually posting this entry half naked again right after shower, and psst, my wife ain’t home atm too, LOL!!

Thermostat

Posted in Car stuff on February 21, 2009 by Stanley Carter

Believed it or not, my 4AGE doesn’t has a thermostat installed!  Thanks to my mechanic, who actually took it out and threw it away, well its because he has this weird belief that thermostat does nothing good but fucks up the engine, hmmm… WTF?

Anyhow, I ordered a thermostat from a local spare parts shop, suited for all 4A engines:

4A Thermostat

The thing costs me RM52, ok ok la…

4A Thermostat

4A Thermostat

Other than the thermostat, I’ve also bought some gasket sheets and gasket glue for the installation use.

The next day, I’ve called up Johnny and he dropped by my house at night to help me with the installation, he was doing all the work while I was learning in the process (I’m a mechanical idiot).  Turns out that the installation process of the thermostat is extremely easy, LOL!

The above pictures were taken before the thermostat was installed, Johnny placed the new thermostat that I bought in the hose and put everything back into place again.  We’ve started the engine, refilled the radiator water and waited for the results, unfortunately, the thermostat FAILED us.  When the water temp started rising above optimum level, the thermostat wasn’t opening up its valve, which caused the engine to increase heat since water was blocked and not flowing.

Long story short, I’ve returned the thermostat to the shop and asked for a replacement, which I did just few days later.  Although I got the replacement thermostat already, I have yet to install it onto my 4AGE, blame that on my laziness I guess  LOL!  However, when I do have the time, I’ll be doing it by myself for sure, big thanks to Johnny for all the help earlier!

Sexy Charmant

Charmant with cool wheels

Charmant with cool wheels

…not my car sadly!

I spotted this Charmant few days ago while I was driving my wife to her office, do check out the wheels he’s running with, I’m not entirely sure what wheels are those, but its deep dished, wide and its looking really good on the Charmant alright!  Too bad the traffic was moving so I couldn’t possibly just go down and knock on his window to have a chat or two (yeah right, like I would really have the guts to do that, LOL!).  But honestly, don’t you guys agreed that those wheels should be on my car, instead of his?  I’m sure this is just another Ah Pek driving this Charmant as a daily driver, its definitely a waste!  Gimme those wheels!

Oh yeah, if I do have those wheels, the red has gotta go for sure, haha! ^_^

Freebies!

Last week I visited Johnny’s house which is situtated nearby the Sibu General Hospital, and guess what he got for me, a pair of 1.5″ spacers and a 4AGE head cover plate.  Johnny stated that he has no need of these parts, so he decided to lend them to me for the time being, hey, that’s cool with me!

Here is a shot of the engine bay with the cover plate installed, doesn’t really do much though, but at least now my spark plugs aren’t as exposed as before anymore:

Anyhow, I was more excited about the spacers that Johnny gave me and was eager to have them installed right away.  But on the other hand, I was also worried if the spacers would actually have any side effects on the handling or other parts at all, I eventually posted a thread on DCM for more advise from the experts.  The conclusion, it should be alright if the parts were torque’d properly, alrighty then, let’s proceed!

Few days later, I bought 8 lug nuts at a local spare parts shop for RM16.  The nuts that I bought are shorter than the standard ones, as I wanted to make sure they don’t get in the way during my rim fitment.

And here is how the 1.5″ spacers looks like, it’s blue btw:

And on with the installation, done everything in my home garage, and here’s another shot with the Spacer on the rear rotor:

And on with the rims:

And to sum things up, here’s a comparison picture that I made (can barely spot any difference actually):

After I’ve got the spacers installed, I drove the car out for a spin or two, so far so good, but only normal test drive, I have yet to test drifted it yet, I do wonder if it actually made any difference, or maybe not?  Who knows, but hey, I’m getting the answers soon anyways, haha!
