This is taking longer than I’ve expected!

My Charmant that is.  Since I’ve sent my car to the Paint shop during early December, it’s been over a month now and the car is only at Primer paint applying stage!  Dayuummnn~!

It’s not that my car got neglected by the shop or what, its the fact that the full responsibility of my car’s paint job was  actually being held by my younger cousin (whom had been in the business for more than 4 years), not to the shop owner himself.  And since he’s my cousin, I can actually trust on him in getting the job done properly, with a fairly reasonable price of course, you know lah… relative mar… hiak hiak hiak!

Due the fact that my cousin is still just an employee, he has to borrow his boss’s place as well as paying for the paints and other materials that he used on my car, except for the labor charge of course.  So there you have it, my cousin can ONLY work on my car after working hours (including Sunday), and he doesn’t work on my car everyday either (if he does, that’d be way too hardcore!) hence the slow progress.

I can’t complain much though, as I must admit the quality of the job done so far was pretty darn good, say the Primer application for instance, my cousin had actually applied 5 layers of Primer paint onto my car (although I’m not very sure how much difference does it make, but my cousin stated that it’s better that way, I guess in layman’s term, the thicker the better? LOL!), whereas normal people would only apply 1-2 layers only.

Fixing the bonnet

Fixing the bonnet

Here you can see my cousin working on my bonnet, I’m not entirely sure what this process is called in English, but he described it as some sort of ‘washing’, which is to smoothen out the surface.  I mean, just look at it, this ain’t even my bonnet’s face surface and he’s spending hours just to ‘wash’ it till its smooth, damn…. though I do wondered sometime if it was really necessary… LOL!

Anyways, while my car is still only halfway to its completion, I managed to found a local workshop situated halfway along the road to Sibu Airport terminal few days back while I was on my way back home from the weekly Rainforest hash run, the place is called “MotorJaya Enterprise”:

So what’s so special about this place then? It is actually the spare parts of course!  Check out the number of old cars:

If you look closer at the bottom left of the above picture, you can spot a Charmant!  And that’s not the only Charmant laying around, there is another Charmant parked just right in front of it (which is out of this picture btw).  The moment I spotted the Charmant at this place, I told myself “Yes! Finally! cosmetic parts for my Charmant!”  Yep, you’ve read it right, I only wanted the cosmetic spare parts, such as the rubbers, the plastic covers and etc, which my current car are lacking a few, and most of them have awful cracks.

So, as I dropped by the workshop and started planting my face on two of these Charmant, I was very glad that both cars have all the parts that I needed and the conditions are decent, which is great news.

While I did get uberly excited that I’m finally able to restore my Charmant to its old glory (look wise), I didn’t expected that the shop owner was in fact, a blood sucker! I’ve listed the items that I needed from the car, which includes:

  1. 1 plastic cover on front right door (the one in between the door and the window)
  2. The ‘Charmant’ emblem. ( I lost mine long ago T_T )
  3. The foot rest underneath the front door.
  4. The plastic covers for both Seat belts

Guess how much he asked for?

RM300/-

I’m not sure if other hardcore old school lovers think this is ‘cheap’ or not, but for me, its definitely overpriced already.  First of all, there’s plenty of Charmants driving around Sibu, and the shop owner actually has 2 of this baby lying in his open air car park (the cars might not even run anymore, who knows), asking for a mere RM300 for these few items only was definitely a big NO for me, way overpriced IMHO!  It’s not like Charmants are RARE or something (..or is it? LOL!)… jeez…

Anyhow, the negotiation followed didn’t went well too, even several attempts in cutting down the items that I need also doesn’t help as the minimum price that I need to pay for any single item is still RM50 or above, crap!

To be honest, I actually expected not more than RM100 for all the items… LOL!

Well, I guess I can still wait a little longer, no rush anyways, hopefully I can find reasonable priced spares for my Charmant in the near future, on the other hand, my car is a Drift car, actually no need to work up so nicely also can lar~ (self convincing) XD!
