Say bye bye to Rust!

Back to the Charmant’s body restoration progress report!  Basically my car is already fully restored and 90% free of rust now at the moment, it is now being parked at another workshop for a new paint, which I do hope it will be done before January 2009.

So how was the rust repair?  Check out these pictures yourself:

Remember this part?  Well the rust has been fixed, and next I’ll show you how my car used some really thick putty!

This is actually a small portion of the putty layer that the workers from the workshop tore from my car, check out how thick it is!  Damn~!

My Charmant had an accident many years ago when it crashed into a road side tree sideways, it was a direct hit from the passenger side’s B pillar, the damage was pretty bad:

I assume when the car was sent for body repairs, the guys decided to fill up the body with thick layers of putty instead of trying to knock the body as close as to its original shape, lazy method alright, hehe!

Another area which was fully repaired is the front passenger’s foot rest, there used to be a tiny hole which was caused by rust, a new steel plate and some welds would get it fixed.

This was how my rear trunk looks like before the rust was being treated, don’t worry though, it is being fully repaired by now, just that I don’t have any updated pictures at the moment.

Here you can see how the rear bumper had a big dent right above the Exhaust, this was actually caused by a motorcycle crash years ago when my dad was driving, the cyclist was ok, and my dad didn’t even bothered to send the car for repair right after that, what a bugger! LOL!

And this is how it looks like when its being knocked back into its proper shape, looks way better now.  Also check out my tiny tires at the back, looks pretty hideous huh?  Well those have to stick with me for a while as the bigger wheels are still out of my budget, plus with these smaller tires, its easier to induce oversteer, I’m still a beginner drifter anyways. ^_^

And last picture of this entry, this is the place where I sent my Charmant in for body restoration and rust repairs, it took them 2 weeks just to get everything done, not actually fast but not slow either, in the end I’m kinda satisfied with the work done, now I’ll just have to wait for another month before I can get my car back onto Sibu roads for more sideways action!

  2. Nicely done dude… I think its 700 well spent. For me, if i were you, i prolly won’t paint it (since I’m a little cheap / broke). :p

  3. tofu: Well its better to have it painted else the rust might come back as so I heard. Ain’t we drifters all broke / cheapskates! LOL!
